About Kioko

Kioko means "happy child" in Japanese. Owned by Nicole Barratt, we have been breeding Oriental & Siamese cats since 2006 and started breeding Peterbald in 2009. We are currently located on the Berea in Durban, South Africa.

A little about me... I have owned Siamese and Burmese for most of my life and became involved in showing two of my first Orientals in 2006. In 2007, I was invited to join the Provincial Cat Society cat club Committee and currently serve as the PCS Public Relations Officer and Club Secretary. I am proud to have served on the organising Committee for SACC Cat of the Year 2009 and have been stewarding at shows since 2008.

We are committed to developing the type, health and temperament of the Oriental, Siamese & Peterbald breeds in South Africa and concentrate mostly on breeding healthy, confident pets for loving homes. We do occasionally sell kittens to reputable breeders and on occasion, exceptional kittens are available for export. Our cats, including our stud boy, Renji, live indoors with us and are involved in the day to day activities in our household.

AVAILABILITY
Our kittens are placed in loving, secure forever homes at around 16 weeks of age. Because we only have a few breeding queens, it is important that you contact us to be added to our waiting list. Please visit the NURSERY. Occasionally we might have retired adults available and these will be advertised on the website.

EARLY NEUTER / SPAY
Our babies going to pet/show homes are neutered at 12 weeks of age. Kittens bounce back much quicker from the operation at a younger age and are ready for their new homes by 14 - 16 weeks. The price of neuter / spay is built into the adoption fee. Our kittens are also microchipped with our details before leaving our home and this cost is also built into the adoption fee.

COLOURS & PATTERNS
We are able to breed many colour and pattern combinations, but cannot guarantee specific combinations in each litter. We suggest that should you be interested in a kitten that you choose a kitten based on TEMPERAMENT rather than COLOUR and we do not generally take bookings based on colour or pattern unless it is specifically requested by a breeder. Should you insist on a specific colour, you will have to be prepared to wait patiently for nature to grant your wish. Our focus breeding programmes are torties, reds and creams, bicolours and calicos, as well as self colours. We are able to breed:-

COLOURS:  Black, blue, chocolate, lilac, red, cream. We are also able to breed red and cream females which are rare.

PATTERNS: Tabby, tortie, tortie tabby, solid (self), smoke, other silver varieties, bicolour (patched) and tricolour (calico) and pointed (siamese) in the above patterns and colours.

EYE COLOUR: Oriental eye colour is usually green, however in the bicolour and tricolour combinations, we are able to breed odd-eye (one eye green, the other blue), and very rarely, blue eyes. Siamese eye colour is deep blue and Peterbald's vary from green to blue and odd-eye, depending on their coat colour and pattern.

ON THE MENU
We currently feed a combination of raw, organic free-range chicken mince, topside mince and Hills. Kioko is a proud member of the Hills Breeders Association and we encourage our kittens’ owners to feed Hills, as well as a raw diet where possible. We use only the best milk formulas from Kyron Laboratories, should it be necessary to top up a weaker baby or supplement a very pregnant momma. We use homeopathic remedies to keep our cats happy, healthy and calm and Moducare & Pro-biotics to support their fragile immune systems.
